Solutions with light to make life safer and healthier.
Why are we involved?
„The 2nd generation quantum technologies very often require the cooling of quantum bits and associated circuits as well as quantum sensors/detectors down to the mK range. The technologies to be developed in the network play an important role in this and enable new research fields and applications for the institute.”
Dr Ronny Stolz, Deptm. Quantum Systems
What does the company offer?
Photonics, the light-based key technology of the 21st century, is the focus of research at the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies e.V. (Leibniz-IPHT). In accordance with the motto "Photonics for Life", its scientists research photonic and biophotonic processes and systems for issues in the fields of medicine, life sciences and environmental sciences. In accordance with the motto "From Ideas to Instruments", the knowledge gained from research is translated into application-oriented processes, instrumental concepts and laboratory samples at the Leibniz IPHT in order to offer solutions for pressing problems of our society such as health, energy and the environment.
The institute has 25+ years of experience in researching superconducting devices with sensitivities close to the quantum limit as well as required fabrication technologies (e.g. early in the 2000s the experimental proof of the function of a superconducting multi-qubit circuit was achieved). In the Quantum Circuits Group of the Quantum Systems Department, quantum, quantum-optical and atomic-physical phenomena in atomic and solid-state quantum systems are investigated and innovative materials and fabrication processes (e.g. for miniaturised Josephson junctions) are developed together with the Competence Centre for Micro- and Nanotechnology. e.g. for miniaturised Josephson junctions, SQUIDs, multi-qubit circuits such as quantum metamaterials, some of them ISO-certified) in order to make them usable e.g. for applications in the QT2.O and also for this network.
